The New Flag Tag AZ and Why You Need to Visit

1

Flag Tag AZ did not disappoint. In fact, it impressed the adults and the kids with the existing and new fun for us to enjoy. The group included myself (Heather), my oldest son and a handful of his friends, along with fellow FMB writer Courtney Ludwig, her twin sons and a handful of their friends. We were 15 strong!

But first, here are a few of the big changes, and not so big changes:

What’s New

  • Axe throwing – yes, I just said that, and yes you need to do this

  • Nerf gun course – definitely a great addition but with more obstacles and barriers, it could be even better, also highly recommend larger groups to make this seriously fun

  • Air hockey tables – in my opinion, a GREAT addition, because who doesn’t love air hockey?

  • Little kids area — a perfect space for parents of the “littles” to let them play and still keep an eye on the “bigs”

What’s Changed

  • Inflatables including the two big slides and the bounce houses – we know, you’re sad about this, but the other additions make up for it

  • The fenced in sports area – the axe throwing in this place is way cooler, just sayin’

  • Video game room – but really, no one used that anyway

What’s the Same

  • Climbing wall – still a hit

  • Laser tag – the BEST thing about Flag Tag (aside from the new axe throwing area)

  • Basketball throwing game, skee ball, and video games – still as fun as it was

  • Birthday rooms (there are 3 available for parties) – can’t lose with these and the cost is reasonable

  • Café with food and drinks, tables and chairs – food and drink for everyone and it felt like they had even more seating available

Laser tag insanity

Heather’s experience: So personally I had never done the laser tag before but my nearly 10 year-old son had told me it was the best laser tag he’s ever done. So I took his word for it and finally tried it myself. And boy was he right. It was CRAZY fun. If you have or have not done laser tag before, you need to go to Flag Tag and experience theirs. The only thing that could have improved it, is if my husband was there on the opposing team so I could crush him!

Courtney’s experience: I haven’t done a game of Laser Tag since I was back in high school (over 20 years ago) and it has gotten much more high tech. The new system can even be personalized for repeat players. It also allows a lot more players to participate in each game. If you look carefully you can find a spot that will upgrade your laser gun to rapid fire.

Axe throwing, how Flagstaff-esque

The axe throwing area might be the most unexpected and coolest thing about the new Flag Tag. Not that we were very good, but as “they” say practice makes perfect, or better anyway. This is seriously fun and great for a group of friends or colleagues. I could definitely see coming here for a girls night or a work social event, doing both the axe throwing and laser tag.

And don’t worry about safety; to be allowed to participate in the Axe Throwing you can not consume any alcohol before throwing. They will even give you a free lesson in how to throw safely. Did you know…Flag Tag AZ is part of the World Axe Throwing League. They follow all the rules and scoring of the league. You can sign up to join. Fees are $150 per season.

So who’s in for starting some axe-throwing teams and having a league to play at the Flag Tag location?

New, different, better

Overall, our experience was pretty exceptional for our large and chaotic group. The owner and employees of Flag Tag are all over it and very helpful. The axe throwing addition really makes Flag Tag more appealing to adults (you have to be 16 or over to play). It opens up a whole new reason to go there. And quite honestly, the laser tag is not to be missed. I haven’t had that much fun in a long time and only wished I hadn’t waited so long to do it. Go check it out, with all of the changes and additions — you won’t be disappointed.

The kids in our group ranges from ages 7 to 12 and they had a blast. The party room gives you an individual space to celebrate, eat, and/or sit down to catch your breath. When you Book a party they provide you with a dedicated party host, fresh hot pizza, a cupcake per child, and games of Laser Tag or Nerf Tag. The room rental includes your choice of colors for tablecloths, plates, and napkins. The large chalkboards can be personalized for your event. They even have birthday candles if you forget!

The only drawback to the entire night for me was that we didn’t have more time to play. It seemed like 90 minutes flew by. All the kids collectively had a suggestion for more obstacles in the Nerf Tag area and had plenty of ideas they wanted to share with the owner for the next time we visit.
