I just got home from a 10-day rafting trip in the Grand Canyon with my husband. We were gone from work, cell phones, our kids and everything for 10 days! To say it was great is an understatement. Before we left, my husband and I joked about reconnecting on the trip. I thought, aren’t we fine? But I can’t tell you how great it was to be with him in a place that we both really love! We are a lot like everyone else with jobs, kids, emails, bills, responsibilities and all of that fun real-life adult stuff. But being in a place that I love with him was quite refreshing. (So thank you Melissa, for inviting us, and putting together such an amazing trip!)
So I am here to encourage you to connect and reconnect! Here are 3 ways you can reconnect and connect. First, reconnect with someone you love. Second, reconnect with something you love to do. And lastly, connect with something new in life that brings you joy!
First, let’s talk about reconnecting with loved ones.
Take some time out with your significant other to do something you used to do when you started dating. Go to a place you haven’t been to in a while with your husband. If you are short on time write a postcard or pick up the phone to tell someone how grateful you are for them!
Now let’s think about reconnecting with things you love to do (or used to do).
Think about the things you did as a child or a young adult that you loved doing. Take a moment to think about the things in life that you could talk about for hours. What are some things you would do for free, or could spend all day doing? Even if you can’t take a vacation right now, there is probably a way to spend a little time doing something that you may not have done in a while.
Lastly, I have been spending some time thinking about connecting with new joys.
Go ahead and think about the things that get you excited and light a spark in you. When are scrolling through social media what articles do you click on and read more about? What are some things you have been wanting to try? Again this can take 5 minutes. Just be sure to notice when something sparks your interest, that may be your next passion! And go have some fun!
