My Mommy Must Haves

Whenever I hear about someone having their first child, I so desperately want to insert my opinions on what to buy and what not to buy. My Mommy Must Haves. Not because I am some self-proclaimed baby-stuff-expert, but so that others do not make the same mistakes I did. I have purchased multiple of everything that I am about to share with you. So if I can save one person the headache and money that I did to learn what is necessary and what is not, then I will feel successful writing this post!

Here’s My Short List of Mommy Must Haves:

A backpack style baby bag. Yes, there are sooo many cute baby bags out there! I get it, I get it. But there are also sooo many cute backpack style baby bags out there too.  Get one of those because you will need your hands free as much as possible. ‘But I have one that goes across like a crossbody; so it won’t just hang on my shoulder and get in the way like a purse’, you say. Great, but this will kill your back. Trust me, buy a good backpack style baby bag with comfortable shoulder straps. Your back will thank me later. You’re welcome.

A good baby carrier. What’s good you ask? One that has ergonomic back support (again, you are welcome) and one that lets the baby be worn in several positions such as facing forward and on the back. Baby gets tired and cranky of facing inward all the time, especially as they get older. I admit, when the babies are newborn, a lighter, easier to throw on baby carrier is better, but this is my suggestion if you can only purchase one carrier.

A decent baby seat. Whether it rocks, vibrates, or can play the entire symphonic orchestra in lullaby tune, your baby will get fussy if they are not comfortable. The seats that curve their backs into a cloth bucket are not only bad for them long term, they are also super un-comfy for your cutie patootie and they will let you know it.

A good stroller. Looking to cut costs on your impending bundle of joy? Well, this is not the item to skimp on. Buy cheaper diapers but do not go for the poorly rated stroller. This item will be your best friend (or worst enemy) for the next few years of your life; so invest in it! It must be easy to steer, easy to assemble and disassemble, have good storage (shopping bags), and have at least one drink holder (coffee, duh). Also, one thing a lot of people don’t think about is the possibility for the stroller to convert into a double stroller in the event you have bundle of joy #2 within a few years of BOJ#1. This will save you from having to purchase a double stroller later on.

An umbrella stroller. Did I not just try to get you to think ahead so that you will only have to buy one stroller? Yes, but this is a mere drop in the bucket if you can find a decent umbrella stroller to throw in the back of your car when you child gets a bit older. It does not replace your main stroller, but it is a great thing to have on hand for quick trips out.

Again, I hope this list saves someone a migraine or a little cash. So what are your mommy must haves? What would you add to this list? Let us know so we can check them out!
