5 Ways I Use Essential Oils in My Home

0

When I hear the words essential oils, I immediately get an icky feeling inside. It makes me think of all of the MLM companies out there and I want nothing to do with it.

So you might be surprised that I’m going to write a whole post about essential oils and how I use them in my home. Because I jumped on the train. And spoiler alert: I really love them.

I began this journey by purchasing the starter kit under the condition that after buying the starter kit, I would never have to spend another penny on an essential oil ever again, unless I wanted to. I confirmed over and over that there was no monthly minimum that I had to meet and that I wouldn’t have to sell oils to anyone. The last thing I wanted to do was host a party. Because let’s be real, I don’t have enough friends for that. 🙂

After using the starter kit in a very basic way, I began doing more research on different blends and various issues that I wanted to help support in our family’s health and wellness. That led to trying out new oils outside of the starter kit, then trying out and loving Thieves for home cleaners, then buying the extra things like rollers, spray bottles, and carrier oils to make goodies for around the home.

There are a few reasons why I love them and knew that switching to using oils and non-toxic products at home was the right choice for us.

The first and probably most surprising one is that my husband and daughter both ask for oils, unsolicited. They ask for them at bedtime, they ask for the diffusers, and they don’t decline when I roll something on and offer it to them.

Another reason is that while MLMs make me feel icky, I also know that I am supporting other women and families.

And finally, it makes everything smell so good and I do feel like I get extra support when I use them — even if that is all in my head. I also don’t have to worry about putting candles out in the house. My daughter can help “clean” with the Thieves cleaner because there aren’t any nasty chemicals in it.

There are so many benefits associated with using oils, some of which include: relaxation, stress relief, relief of minor discomforts, immune system support, respiratory system support, sleep support, and more.

Here are 5 ways that I use essential oils in my home.

Diffusing

I usually diffuse a blend in the morning that lasts throughout the day.

  • Eucalyptus Radiata + Citrus Fresh
  • Grapefruit + Cedarwood + Citrus Fresh
  • Joy + Grapefruit + Citrus Fresh
  • Joy + Peppermint + Lemon

Bedtime

  • Diffuse Lavender + Cedarwood + Stress Away
  • Diffuse Peace & Calming + Lavender (kids)
  • Diffuse Sleepyize + Lavendar (kids)
  • Lavender rolled on wrists and feet
  • Sometimes drop of Cedarwood on big toe for snoring

Skin Care

  • Frankincense + Lavender + Copaiba + Jojoba oil

House Cleaners/Smells

  • Thieves concentrate, diluted for spray
  • Purification on cotton balls
  • Purification + Lavender spray with witch hazel and water

Rollers

I use the Stress Away roller daily, many times a day, when I need a pick-me-up, or just as a perfume. I really love it and have given rollers as gifts and have heard such great feedback about it.

The Thieves roller is to support immune systems and I have my daughter roll it on her feet and chest before going to germ-infested places like a gym or other public areas. I also carry the Thieves waterless hand purifier mini bottles and throw them in our car and bags in case we aren’t able to wash our hands.

  • Stress Away + Lavender + coconut oil as carrier oil
  • Thieves + coconut oil

I’ve also used the vitality line before, where you can ingest oils. I don’t do that often; however, sometimes when I am out of lemons or limes, I will add a drop or two to our food to flavor it.

All of these oils and blends are made with the Young Living essential oil line. Most of the items on this list can be made with the starter kit, which is what I started with.

I hope this is helpful and will offer you a good starting point if you want to try essential oils out.

If you use essential oils at home, what are your favorite oils and blends and ways to use them? I’m always looking to learn more, so please share!

*As always, please do your research before using any kind of oil.
