Red White and Blue: Treats and Food

0

It’s the 4th of July! And you’re feeling all patriotic and happy…and that’s when you realize…”It’s the 4th of July, and I need to bring _________ to today’s BBQ.”

Or maybe you ran into so-and-so at the parade and in your moment of excitement, decided it’d be a grand idea to get together…today…last minute…on the 4th of July.

I’ve been there. Probably more than I care to admit.

But on the bright side, you have Flagstaff Moms Blog to help make it easy for you.

I’m sharing my go-to”Red, White & Blue” dessert, and we did a round up of pretty and patriotic treats for your 4th of July Festivities! We toured the internet to find some of the most creative and yummy looking dishes, check out the menu!

No-Bake American Flag

This uses a fruit topping I grew up enjoying during summer vacation in Toledo, Ohio. It tastes like cheesecake…for real. A few years ago, I saw a Martha Stewart segment on TV featuring a decadent, gorgeous American Flag dessert.

I realized I could do the same thing using this easy fruit topping and pre-baked sugar cookies (don’t judge – I’m a mom, who at the time was lucky to shower each day).

Shopping List

  • 1 8-oz block of Cream Cheese
  • 1 jar of marshmallow cream (next to marshmallows at store)
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • sugar cookies

Directions

Soften cream cheese and combine with marshmallow cream. Place in fridge to chill.

Spread baked sugar cookies in a layer on a cookie sheet or cake pan. The cookies should be touching to create a foundation for your fruit topping. (If you want to be an overachiever, you can bake the sugar cookies yourself in a solid sheet.)

Spread a thick layer of the topping over the sugar cookies (remember, it tastes like cheesecake). Place blueberries in a rectangle to create the illusion of the “stars,” and cut strawberries in half lengthwise to create the stripes.

That’s it!!!
