I feel so very lucky that occasionally I have some spare moments in the day! While my life is busy, I do love to give back whenever I can through volunteering.

I am putting this list together for you and for me, as I would love to spend more time volunteering with my kids! I know that not all non-profits in town want or need young volunteers, but there are plenty who do! My boys are 10 and 12 and are very lucky to have all of their basic needs met, and teaching them to help other people is a high priority in our family.

This is just a small sampling of places that need our help in Flagstaff, please let us know in the comments where you like to volunteer with your kids. Please contact the organizations below to see how you can help!

Feeding Northern Arizona’s Future: This wonderful organization provides food for school children while school is not in session. The organization takes non-perishable food to the local schools, where the teachers determine which kids need the food. Recently my youngest son and I went to a FNAZ bagging event! All of the food had already been collected, and we put together grocery bags for the kids to take home from school for the weekend.

Flagstaff Family Food Center: They need volunteers to prepare, serve and clean up during the meal service, and so much more! Both of my children’s school classes have done volunteer work at the food center.

Flagstaff Shelter Services: This amazing non-profit provides shelter to anyone experiencing homelessness and so much more! Among other things, they help people find their 1st homes. FSS gathers items for people moving into a home for the 1st time, items such as sheets and towels, pots and pans, toilet paper, laundry baskets and even that 1st night’s dinner! This is just one of many ways kids can get involved and help at FSS.

Flagstaff Humane Society: The local animal shelter is always looking for volunteers! They need dog walkers, donated items and so much more. They have a training session before you can begin volunteering, please click on the link to find out more!

I know there are so many other opportunities to give back here in Northern Arizona. I would love to hear about your experiences volunteering with kids in Flagstaff!

Katie has lived in Flagstaff for 22 years and grew up in North Carolina. She has 10 and 12 year old boys who are certainly an adventure! Her family is by far the most rewarding part of her life. Katie loves hiking and running in our beautiful hills, skiing, river rafting, traveling, health and clean eating (thanks to a whacky thyroid). She is also always taking small steps to clean up our environment, and she is currently learning meditation and just loves learning in general! Katie and her college roommate drove to AZ from VA after college and Katie has only left briefly but Flagstaff is her home for sure! She met her wonderful husband while river guiding in the Grand Canyon. Katie is a family photographer at www.katiewoodardphotography.com, here in Flagstaff and loves capturing the natural love and beauty in families. Her newest fun adventure is co-founding Women Empowering Northern Arizona.
